Finalmente oggi, dopo gli esami statali e due giorni di vacanze scolastiche, abbiamo potuto iniziare le nostre attività didattiche e lo abbiamo fatto con un progetto a cui teniamo molto e che avevamo preparato da alcune settime. L’idea era di creare una bomboniera per il battesimo del bambino di una cara amica che quando ha sentito parlare della scuola e del nostro viaggio ha subito preso a cuore il progetto. Dopo aver fantasticato sulle mille cose che le bambine avrebbero potuto realizzare e riflettendo molto anche sul degrado ambientale in cui spesso vivono, abbiamo pensato che si poteva lavorare con materiali riciclati. Avevamo anche già discusso la possibilità di fare delle lezioni di educazione ambientale. Non abbiamo quindi più avuto dubbi, avremmo fatto un laboratorio parlando con le bambine di ambiente e sostenibilità per poi mettere in pratica il concetto di riciclaggio realizzando un “acchiappasogni” in cartone e carta di giornale riciclata.
Il risultato è stato un grande successo! Il primo giorno sono entrata in aula preoccupata che l’argomento potesse essere di scarso interesse o che le nozioni potessero essere troppo astratte. Abbiamo parlato di sostenibilità ambientale, inquinamento, materiali biodegradabili, risorse rinnovabili e gestione di rifiuti.
Finally today, after the exams and two days of school holidays, we could start our teaching activities and we did it with a project that we have been preparing for weeks. The idea was to create a memento for the baptism of the child of a dear friend who heard about the school and our journey and has taken the project to heart. After brainstorming about a thousand things that the girls could have created and having some discussions about the environmental degradation in which they often live, we thought that we could have worked with recycled materials. We had also discussed the possibility of giving environmental education classes. We then had no more doubts, we would have done a lab talking about environmental sustainability and then put into practice the concept of recycling by realizing a dream catcher with recycled cardboard and newsprint.
The result was a great success! The first day I entered in the class worried that the argument could have been of little interest or that the concepts might be too abstract. We talked about environmental sustainability, pollution, biodegradable materials, renewable resources and waste management.
L’attenzione e la curiosità delle bambine era davvero sorprendente, hanno fatto domande, risposto alle mie, addirittura hanno ripetuto in coro alcune parole chiave.
The attention and curiosity of the girls was really amazing, they asked questions, answered to my interrogation and they even repeated together some keywords.
I loro occhi guardavano fisso me e la lavagna, alcuni concetti erano nuovi per loro, ma facendo degli esempi, e rapportandoli al contesto in cui loro vivono, mi è sembrato che avessero afferrato molte nozioni. Tuttavia sono uscita dall’aula con il dubbio di aver esposto troppi concetti. La seconda parte del laboratorio si è svolta in cortile dove hanno lavorato, con grande precisione, con cartone e carta pesta.
Their eyes looked at me and the blackboard, some concepts were new to them, but giving examples and contextualizing the topics I felt that they had grabbed many notions. However, I went out of the classroom with the doubt that I gave them too many concepts. The second part of the workshop was held in the yard where they worked, with great precision, with cardboard and paper.
Il secondo giorno, oggi, ci siamo ritrovate per continuare il lavoro. Prima della parte pratica ho provato ad interrogare le bambine sulla lezione di ieri e con grande stupore mi sono accorta che ricordavano e avevano compreso tutto! Nella seconda parte del laboratorio le bambine hanno dipinto l’ acchiappasogni di cartone e cartapesta, purtroppo il materiale a disposizione non era sufficiente per tutte, ma per loro non è stato un problema, hanno iniziato a dividersi e prestarsi colori e pennelli con grande collaborazione.
On the second day, today, we gathered to continue the work. Before the practical part I made some questions on the past lessons and I realized that they understood and remembered everything! In the second part of the workshop the children have painted the dream catcher made with cardboard and newsprint. Unfortunately the material available was not sufficient for all girls, but for them it was not a problem, they started to share colors and brushes with great collaboration.
I loro dipinti sono bellissimi, ognuna di loro ha saputo creare decorazioni, abbinamenti di colori e stili diversi e l’hanno fatto con grande sicurezza e abilità. Il risultato finale ci è sembrato un vero capolavoro. Quando finalmente hanno finito ho spiegato che i loro lavori sarebbero stati dati ad un bambino piccolo italiano per la sua festa di battesimo, i loro occhi si sono illuminati e hanno sorriso con grande dolcezza.
Their paintings are really beautiful, each girl has been able to create decorations, combinations of colors and styles, and they did it with great confidence and skill. The final results are real masterpieces. When they finally finished I explained that we would have given their handcraft to an Italian small child for its baptism, their eyes light up and smiled very sweetly.
